UNANSWERED QUESTIONS

Here are some questions we either haven't researched yet, or haven't been able to find the answers to. If you can help with answers, please us.

Another James Dermont, or the James who died in 1786?

The transcription below records a sale of property on Aug 25, 1746, by Andrew Dalton (husband of Catherine Dermont, daughter of Michael Dermont, Sr).

Assuming the purchaser, James Dermont, was 20 years old, or older, he wouldn't have been a son of Michael Dermont, Sr, because he wasn't listed in Michael's 1730 will.  Where does he fit? Or...
If this James Dermont is the same as the one in our file who died in 1786, he would have been at least 60 years old when he died. Sarah, widow of James, married a James Canter in 1787.  Is it likely that Sarah, assuming she was close to the same age as James, remarried at that age?

Our file presently shows the James Dermont who died in 1786 as the son of Michael Dermont, Jr, and born in about 1743, but that is speculation pending more information.

Was this the Dermont/Dearmont Immigrant?

There is a record of a John Dermot, age 21, imigrating to Virginia in 1635 on the ship Assurance, from London;  whether we eventually are able to connect to him or any documented immigrant to our Dermonts/Dearmonts, remains to be seen.

Was Peter Dearmont the 2nd husband of Mary Elizabeth Ferguson Bell?

Peter and Mary Bell were married in Buchanan County, MO, on Nov 12, 1958. Their marriage record (click here to see it) shows her last name as Buck. A Bell family correspondent in Virginia insists that Peter Dearmont was Mary's only husband.  It is possible that the name Buck on the record was a clerical error, as the marriage was recorded quite a while after the date of the marriage.
